Fear can show up quietly.
It doesn’t always look like panic or tears.
Sometimes it’s subtle, like second-guessing your instincts.
Hesitating when your horse needs clarity.
Going stiff in the shoulders, holding your breath… and hoping it’ll all pass quickly.
Sound familiar?
You’re not broken. You’re not weak.
You’re responding in the only way your nervous system knows how in that moment.
I’ve seen this freeze happen in strong, capable men and women.
Horse people who care deeply.
Horse people who’ve read all the books, watched the videos, tried the techniques—
but still find themselves stuck when fear enters the space.
And I get it. Because I’ve been there too.
“I just don’t know what to do when he panics.”
That’s what someone said to me recently.
And it was such a brave thing to admit.
She wasn’t afraid of her horse hurting her.
She was afraid of doing the wrong thing.
Afraid of making the fear worse.
Afraid of being seen as not good enough, by others, or even by her horse.
So she froze.
Not yelling. Not yanking. Not leaving.
Just… still.
Hoping her silence might make everything calm down.
And her horse?
He stayed unsure.
Because when she checked out, he was left holding all the tension.
What shifted?
We didn’t dive into more “how-to.”
We slowed down.
We paid attention to where the freeze happened, and why.
She started noticing:
– the moments she held her breath
– the way she shrunk when someone watched
– the stories she told herself about being “too much” or “not enough”
And from that place, something opened up.
She began choosing to stay present, even when things felt shaky.
Not fixing the fear—but walking through it with her horse.
And little by little, they both softened.
Not because the fear was gone—but because it no longer ran the show.
This week, I want to ask you:
What would change for you, if fear wasn’t in charge anymore?
Not because you eliminated it completely.
But because you understood it.
Saw it coming.
And chose trust instead.
Let’s make space for that conversation.
This is what we’re unpacking together in my free webinar later this month:
Fear to Freedom: How to Work With Fear Instead of Fighting It.
I’ll share the what, when, and why, so you can start showing up differently for your horse (and yourself).
And for those who are ready to make this shift a lasting part of how they relate, respond, and rebuild trust, there’s a course that goes deeper.
No pressure. Just real, steady support if you know this is the season to truly change the story you’re both living.
You’re not alone in this.
And you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.
We start with awareness.
We build with presence.
We learn to lead again—from a grounded place.
Stay tuned for the date. You don’t want to miss it.

P.S. If this spoke to something deeper in you, and you’re ready to explore how fear shows up, for you and your horse, my ReWild Coaching sessions offer a space to do just that. This isn’t about fixing. It’s about understanding, reconnecting, and choosing a different way forward, together.
